Stephens State Park invites you to participate in our Interpretive Nature Programs. The Naturalist will be presenting a variety of free informative and educational programs. Parking for Nature Programs is provided in the lower parking lot. Walk through the path to the tent by the Stephens Homestead .

Monday, May 31
NATIVE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE  
1:00 – 2:15 P.M.
Learn how the Lenape Indians survived using arrowheads to hunt prey.  Create a Native American craft as you listen to Indian music.  Play Indian games.

HIGHLANDS TRAIL SPRING GEOLOGY HIKE 
 2:30 – 4:00 P.M.
Moderate difficulty hike along the highland areas.  Observe and learn about the geological features that make the highlands unique.  Bring a camera, snack and beverage.  Wear comfortable hiking boots.  A  family activity for older children.

1:00 P.M. AND 2:30 P.M.
The Eastern Bluebird is making a comeback in New Jersey.  Bring your favorite grown-up to help you build bluebird boxes to place in the park, and come back to monitor them throughout the year.  For families with children ages 6 to 12.  Free.  Pre-registration required.

Hands-on fun experience will entertain and enlighten the junior paleontologist.  Use dinosaur rubbings, answer questions from our Dino catch ball, play Dino-opoly.

BIRDS OF PREY – OWLS: NIGHT HUNTERS INTRODUCTION

Learn about the winged predators that are active during the day and at night.  Learn about the ecology and food chain of the barn owl.

OWLS: DISSECTION OF A BARN OWL PELLET
2:30 – 4:00 P.M.
Find out what a barn owl has eaten.  Identify and classify skeletal bones in the owl pellet.  Take home a dissected owl pellet and bone chart provided during activity.   Suitable for older children.
